For many years, a well-known performing arts center has been offering a special workshop for children and teens that are interested in learning the art of theater.
“Kidstage is a program that’s provided by Sound’s Center On The Square and it teaches the kids between seven and seventeen how to develop their skills on the stage,” said Kidstage member Andrew White.
While Center On The Square’s goal is to teach kids more about this art form, students come out with much more than just that.
“I’ve made lots of different friends through kid stage, and they’ve all been very different from each other, and different ages, the people I’ve met here have become my friends for life,” said Sophia Fuller.
“Kid stage is my child’s sport,” said parent Carla Fuller. “When other kids are running off to soccer and basketball practice, we’re at the theater, and she’s memorizing lines and learning her blocking, she’s running tech for dinner theater shows, and learning how to run lights, and build sets, and she’s making friends with a lot of people we don’t know from school and church, so it gives her a different perspective of the community I really like.”
During the school year, the students join together once a week to help themselves and friends increase their knowledge of theater.
“We go through lots of different vocal exercises and games acting that help you develop their skills when you get on stage,” said White.
Center On The Square has been making there impact on the community by offering Kidstage and many other projections through out the year.
“Community theater is a chance for people of all ages to interact with each other. My whole family participates in shows, and we’ve made friends with people much younger than we are, much older than we are. It’s just a great opportunity to interact and get to know people that you wouldn’t run into,” said Fuller.
Center On The square has recently purchased a new building and would love to include you in this time of change.
