Searcy (LP) The words in the English language are diminishing faster day by day. \u00a0The history of the world is constantly being changed and forced into the memories of every human mind; Everyone is demanded to believe what the government creates or they will mysteriously vanish and no one is permitted to notice. \u00a0If the government declares that 2+2=5, then it is a new fact and you are forced to believe it despite what you know is true; That is the new truth. \u00a0Posters plastered on street corners and walls which surround the city reveal the society\u2019s three sentence truth, \u201cWar is peace. \u00a0Freedom is slavery. \u00a0Ignorance is strength.\u201d \u00a0This is the society of the predicted year 1984.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"quotes-1984_00376290\"Author George Orwell, born in 1903, predicted the life of the 1984 generation in his book 1984, and although critics believe he wasn\u2019t spot on with every single detail, the resemblance stands uncanny to this day. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, the junior class members enrolled in AP English were required to read this book. \u00a0\u201cWhen I finished our assigned book, I was scared. \u00a0It practically says that the government is always watching you,\u201d says Noah Summerland, a junior at Searcy High School. \u00a0Many students who have read this book, have reported that their eyes were opened to how shockingly similar the book is to today\u2019s reality. \u00a0They realize how involved the government is with their lives, and they were made aware they just take in what the government tells them without question. \u201cI believe that the government in the book, \u2018Big Brother,\u2019 represents our government today. \u00a0I believe our government watches us without telling us,\u201d \u00a0says Elijah Simpinderpher, a junior at Searcy High School. \u00a0The students reported that their English teacher, Trisha White, made an excellent and entertaining choice. \u00a0\u201cIt was my favorite book all year. \u00a0I did not think I would actually enjoy an assigned reading book,\u201d says Diamond Murray, a junior at Searcy High School. \u00a0The book 1984 was a definite eye opening revelation to Searcy High School.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
