To most teens these days, social media is a huge part of their everyday life.
Studies show that more than 1,000 kids from the ages 13 to 17 years old use some form of social media. Among these are social networks Twitter and Facebook. 73% of teens around the world dedicate their time to Facebook while the other 27% use Twitter and other social Networks.
“I use Twitter because it is a good way to stay connected with my friends,” said sophomore Jase Woods.
Some people consider themselves addicted to the networks.
“When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I check is my Twitter and Facebook. I love them both, ” said senior Desjambra Gentry.
Research also shows that social media makes teens generally feel better about themselves, boosts their self esteem and also helps improve relationships with friends.
“Facebook helps me meet people and keeps me in touch with my friends and family, ” said junior Aana Brown.
Although the social media is entertaining, it is a good way to stay connected with one another and builds your social life. It also has not so pleasing aspects such as bullying, a lack of privacy, hate speeches, and other rude behaviors. All of these things raise concerns about our teens today.
