Strong Defensive Effort Leads Searcy Boys Over Lonoke in Bank Classic

SEARCY, Ark. (LP) – The Searcy Lions (3-5) took down the Lonoke Jackrabbits (2-4) in Thursday’s (Dec. 5) matchup in the Searcy Bank Classic.

The Lions were led by Jaylan Clifton, who followed up his 35-point performance on Dec. 3 with 15 points, including a three-pointer that beat the second quarter buzzer.

Quaid King added 12 points of his own, including Searcy’s first points of the game on a thunderous dunk in transition.

But it was Searcy’s defense that was the star of the show, as the Lions consistently forced turnovers and got the Jackrabbits out of rhythm offensively.

While Searcy’s offense wasn’t firing on all cylinders, its defense made sure that wouldn’t be a problem

“Everybody can have on and off nights,” King said when asked about Searcy’s less-than-ideal offensive showing. “We just had to manage it and keep our hands up (on defense).”

Searcy’s victory gives them a 2-0 record on the week after their Dec. 3 win over Catholic High. The Lions will take on the Brookland Bearcats on Saturday (Dec. 7) inside Lion Arena.
