Searcy High School cub classic basketball tournament is a pre-season tournament for the ninth grade basketball teams that Searcy hosts every year.
It took place this year from November 11-15 at AHLF Junior High here in Searcy.
The teams are not just looking forward to a great tournament, but an amazing season and conference turnout as well.
” I think the team will do extremely well this season. Barring injury and getting a few lucky breaks during the year I think we have a chance to win the conference,” said the ladies cub coach-Coach Kersey.
Each team played two games against two different schools.
The boy’s team lost both games against North Cabot and Sylvan Hills but, made it tough and close games.
“We will be more motivated going into this season,” said Caleb Ramey.
On the other hand, the girls won both of their games playing against North Cabot with a score of 24-11-and Benton High School with a score of 28-13.
“It felt good because we did good for it being the first games,” said cub basketball player Allie Brown.
However, some schools are tough competition and will be good for Searcy to go against to help themselves improve.
So, the teams of Searcy practice hard and do many different drills everyday for a good turnout during the season.
They even practice off-season and during the summer.
“The team goes through a very intense off season prior to the season. We also have two team camps that we go through during the summer and once school starts we practice every single day,” said Coach Kersey.
“We’re focusing more on our skills and shooting which I think will help us in our games,” said Brown.
