Senior Ty Danielle, a band student, plays percussion and competes in many competitions.
“I play almost all percussion instruments such as the snare, timpani, xylophone, marimba, and anything you have to hit that makes sound,” said Danielle. “I like drums in particular because they are fun, loud, and creative.”
Danielle first joined band with good expectations.
“I joined band because I thought it would be fun; I was correct,” he said.
Most students relieve stress through sports, art, etc., but Danielle turns to his instruments to take a break.
“Performing something you’ve rehearsed a million times finally releases any stress you might have had beforehand,” said Danielle.
Sometimes Danielle finds that others don’t share the same persistence that he has.
“The only thing that bothers me is when I see people who don’t have the same goals as everyone else, and bring the quality of everyone else down,” Danielle said. “That rarely happens though.”
While Danielle does not plan on majoring in band, he does plan on doing at least something with band after high school.
“I intend to participate in a college band,” said Danielle.
Danielle likes to try out different songs on the percussion instrument he plays.
“I’ll try to play anything on a marimba. Sometimes, I’ll learn how to play theme songs by ear, and I especially love playing ensembles with other percussionists,” said Danielle.
Danielle especially appreciates band because it gives him a chance to do what he enjoys with other kids of a common interest.
“I really like that it’s a skilled team effort, band is a community of friends with similar skills and goals,” said Danielle.
Danielle shared an unusual dream of his about his future band career.
“I want to buy my own vibraphone and play it in a public place during Christmas time,” said Danielle. “I think it would be a really fun and a decent way to make money,” he said.
Danielle had a piece of advice for younger students who might be interested in joining band and the other band students.
“To kids who want to join, I say go for it. Band gives you experiences that you’ll never find anywhere else,” said Danielle. “To current band members, I say keep up the good work and stick with it to the end.”
Danielle, a percussionist, enjoys what he does, and he sounds like he will continue his band career in the future.
