As the season approaches, the boys basketball team has been working hard to prepare. With the loss of four starting seniors last year, there are many spots that must be filled and guys are needed to step up and take over.
“Last year we had four seniors that started, and we’ve lost every one of them,” junior Madison Wright said. “So this year we are going to have to step up and play better and fill in their spots.”
The Lions have been training vigorously to get ready for the season. From shooting drills to intense workouts in the gym, to conditioning and speed drills, the team has been trying hard to assemble a new team of players after the loss of guys they suffered.
The team has many strong points that they have been trying to focus on during practice.
“We’ve got Dezmond Stegall and Jonathan Powell and they’re pretty good, and Camdon Woodruff can shoot pretty good,” Wright said.
The weak points of the team have been addressed as well though.
“We’re really small this year,” Coach Bryant Turney said. “We’ve got twenty guys playing this year so the team has some depth.”
The team is filled with very good, hard working guys though which should help this year.
“We have a group of great guys,” Turney said. “You know that every day they come in here they are going to give their hardest.”
