Many students will be able to vote for the next president of the US in just a few months. This bold topic has many people talking throughout the halls of Searcy High. The Presidential election is coming up in only a few short months. Currently there are six Republican Candidates running. These include: Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and John Kasich. Jordan Skabronski, a senior at Searcy High claims, “I really enjoy Carons play, and I believe he will do good things for this country.” This is a pretty substantial number for being so far into the race.
Currently there are only two Democratic Candidates running. Bernie Sanders and HIllary Clinton are the only two left standing. If elected, Hillary Clinton will be the very first woman to run in The United States of America. If Clinton wins the election, she will break records. Many female students at Searcy have been rooting for Clinton since day one. The most powerful person in the world could be a woman. Running alongside Clinton is Bernie Sanders who is the leading Democratic Candidate. This man has caught the eyes of so many people from the younger generation. His plan is very simple to understand. Free. Sanders wants to make college free for students everywhere. Sen. Sanders has proposed making public universities tuition free and substantially reducing student debt, in a plan that would cost about $75 billion a year. No other candidate has ever attempted Sanders plan.
Donald J. Trump is the leading candidate for the Republican side. He is also the most talked about candidate in the US and at Searcy High. One of Trump’s most talked about topics is his plan to build a wall. Trump claims, “A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border.” Joel Martinez says, “I liked Trump at first, but after I saw who really was, I dislike him.” In recent weeks, the headlines have been covered with cases of criminals who crossed our border illegally only to go on to commit horrific crimes against Americans. Jessica Mitchell, a senior at Searcy High says, “If trump wins, I am moving as far away as possible.”
According to news reports, this is the most diverse and talked about election in history. Nobody knows what the outcome to be. This is also a very exciting time for students at Searcy High. If students are 18 years old before election day, you can place your vote in for the most powerful man/women in the world. Remember, The United States presidential election of 2016, is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2016. This is the 58th presidential election. This is a very exciting time for Searcy High and the world to see.
