Searcy (LP) With the school year winding to an end for the seniors at Searcy High School, the attention has shifted to what life will be like beyond high school. However, there is still a highly acclaimed event taking place for them to look forward to: prom. Prom is considered by many to be the hallmark of celebrations in high school. Most students look forward to the festivities involved at prom; it is a great chance to create many memories that last a life time. As enjoyable as the event is, however, comes with a great deal of preparation. For the girls, lots of time is invested in choosing a dress that suits their tastes. Many factors are considered, such as the fit, stitching, color, and style. Guys have to look at places to acquire a tuxedo and pants for prom; other accessories are also important to completing the look. If you have a date, you also have to consider coordinating the colors of your outfits. Typically, the guy chooses a vest and tie that matches the color of his date’s dress.
On top of this, many people choose to attend prom in groups, so you have to organize a group of people to get together. Choosing transportation for prom is important, as is finding the right place to eat beforehand. Senior Marcellius Whitney said, “There’s so much that you have to consider when planning out what to do for prom. It can get a bit overwhelming at times, but it’s definitely worth it when you get to enjoy it with your close friends.”
This doesn’t even cover the preparation that is put in at the high school. A select group of people dedicate much of their time to decorating the high school, organizing the event, and choosing prizes for prom. Ms. Nielsen, one of the organizers of prom, said, “A lot of work is put into prom to make it a success, but it’s a good feeling when everything goes smoothly because of the time that we put in.” Without their help, prom would not be as enjoyable of an event as it is now. With these last few weeks of school coming to a close, there will be many things that the seniors at Searcy High School will miss, but they’ll have one more chance to celebrate with their fellow classmates on April the 29th at prom.
