Several study hall students have taken up a new hobby, knitting.
“I love to knit. It’s my favorite thing to do,” said Tara Clemons.
Study hall and EAST Lab teacher Kathy Rowlett taught the girls from study hall to knit in their free time.
“I had 80 plus students in the study hall and we needed something positive to do,” Rowlette said. “Knitting is relaxing and fun.”
Rowlette added that she just asked the students if they wanted to learn and was happy to teach them.
“Knitting just relieves your stress,” Micah Tipton said.
Clemmons said she looks forward to her time to knit. “Every day in first period I’m just thinking ‘Oh I can’t wait for study hall. I can’t wait to knit,'” Clemons said.
Most of the knitters were only in study hall for the first semester, so Rowlett said the interest is not as high this semester.
Rowlette said she feels the knitting project was successful.
“Students still knit in study hall as well as other places,” she said. ” They are now teaching others the skill. It is nice to see them in the hall wearing something they created.”
