There have been a few changes to the school’s football stadium in the past few years, but the newest investment over the summer, was the installment of a new playing field–turf. Towards the end of the football season last year, decisions were being made about replacing the grass playing field, with this new turf. The track was closed throughout the summer for this reconstruction to take place.
“Probably the main reason for getting the turf, is because, it is the going thing, and it cuts down on maintenance cost…and makes for a consistent playing surface,” Claude Smith, principal, said.
From the football and soccer teams, to the band members, Most of the students who interact on the field are very excited to play on it.
Athletes truly believe it will improve their playing.
Soccer player, Delaney Smith believes,”…your feet will grip it better.”
Sophomore football player, Matthew Duncan said it’s a much better surface to play football.
“The way it feels on your feet–it’s absolutely amazing, much softer than the actual grass–there’s much better traction,” Duncan said.
The band members are especially excited to be marching on the new layout.
Alexis Collett, a Senior band member, thinks it much better than the regular grass, opposed to uneven ground.
“The turf will be nice and flat for everybody,” Collett added.
Delaney is excited to play soccer on the new turf.
“I think it looks cool. It’s bright and attracts a lot of attention,” Delaney exclaims.
With the first Lions home football game, set for Friday, Sept. 9, all are excited to see in activities take place on the new field.
