SERVICE ACADEMY INFORMATIONAL MEETING: High School students in Arkansas’s Second Congressional District are invited to a Service Academy informational meeting at Central High School Library on February 26 in Little Rock. The event will go from 6:15-8:15 pm This a great opportunity for any students interested in attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs or the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis to talk to alumni and Congressional staff about the application process.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Drama students who attended the 40th Annual Arkansas State Thespian Festival Feb. 7-9. Our performances qualified us for nationals this summer and specific congratulations go out to the following:

CONGRATULATIONS: The wrestling team won the 5A East Conference Championship this past Saturday. All 14 wrestlers placed in the top 3, making them all-conference, and 8 of those were conference champions. Demaceo Whittier also won the Outstanding Wrestler award for the upper weight division. CLINICAL INTERNSHIP: Students interested in applying for Clinical Internship can pick up applications in the Guidance Center. Students must have a 3.0 to apply. Completed applications are due in Guidance Center no later than March 13
ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY WILL HOST A-STATE CONNECTION Friday, April 26-Saturday, April 27, 2019. It is a free, overnight diversity recruitment program designed for high achieving high school juniors from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds.
*The student must reside in Arkansas
*The student must be a marginalized racial/ethnic background (Examples: African American, Asian American, Native American, Hispanic).
*The student must be a junior matriculating in a college prep curriculum with either a 19 ACT and a 2.75 cumulative GPA or 18 ACT and a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

CONGRATULATIONS to Kirkland Corbin for being selected for the 2019 EAST Conference Leadership Team. As a member of the team, Kirkland will serve as an ambassador to help manage and document this year’s conference. The conference is in March in Hot Springs.
SHS WILL OFFER AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE NEXT YEAR: This is not included on the registration forms that the students have been given. Students who are interested in taking AP Environmental Science next year need to write down on their registration form that they plan on taking the course. Coach Clennon will be teaching the course.
EAST will be selling SHS spirit socks during both lunches beginning Monday, Feburary 4. Socks are $10 per pair. You may also purchase socks in the EAST classroom (531).
FIRST ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE is pleased to announce that for the 29th consecutive year, we will select up to four area students to participate in the Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This all-expense-paid trip will involve more than 1,500 students from across the nation in touring our nation’s capital June 14-20. Any high school junior whose parents or guardians are members (customers) of First Electric is eligible for the Youth Tour. To enter the contest, students must submit an application by March 15, 2019. The winners will be selected based on information supplied on the applications and personal interviews
THE YOUTH TOUR: First Electric is accepting applications for our 2019 scholarship program. This year, nine $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to area high school seniors. To apply, the seniors must be scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2019, and their parents or guardians must be members (customers) of First Electric.
