THE ARKANSAS ASSOCIATION OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION ADMINISTRATORS (AACTEA) is offering two AACTEA Scholarship to high school seniors to supplement education costs beginning their freshman year.   The scholarship awards are $500.00 each for the first academic year, and will be awarded to full-time or part-time students who enroll in an Arkansas college or universityincluding junior colleges, community colleges, and vocational or technical colleges.

Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Concentrator or Completer status on at least one Program of Study
  2. Having a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale
  3. Exhibiting a good citizenship record with no suspensions or expulsions
  4. Attempted or achieved an industry certification (ex CRC, OSHA, MTA)
  5. Planning to major in a demand occupation (listed on Discover Arkansas)

Interested seniors may pick up information in the Guidance Center.

 FIRST ELECTRIC COOP YOUTH TOUR: Any junior whose parents are members (customers) of First Electric is eligible to apply for an all-expense-paid trip to the Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour to Washington D.C. on June 19-25. 

 

Interested students can pick up information in the Guidance Center.  The deadline to apply is March 13.

 

FIRST ELECTRIC IS ALSO ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THEIR 2020 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This year, nine $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to area high school seniors. To apply, the seniors must be scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2020, and their parents or guardians must be members (customers) of First Electric.

Interested students can pick up information in the Guidance Center.

FFA- “LIDS FOR KIDS:  Searcy FFA will be conducting a fundraising campaign during National FFA Week, Feb. 24-28, 2020 to raise money for the SHS Food Pantry. SHS Administration has approved the campaign to allow students who purchase a campaign sticker to wear their caps during the school to show their support against hunger. Tags can be purchased from FFA Officers in the hallway by the cafeteria during lunch. ** Tags must be visibly attached to the cap. 

SHS PROM CLOSET: SHS Students attending the SHS prom and would like to take advantage of the new or gently worn prom dresses, men’s suites/ties, shoes, purses and jewelry are invited to visit the SHS Prom Closet on the designated shopping days. Students may also sign up for the cosmetic services offered on the day of the prom at the Searcy High School Performing Arts Center makeup room. The shopping days for the prom closet will be Tuesday, March 10th and Wednesday, April 8th Searcy High School Performing Arts Center- 3rd Floor. 3:05-5:00 P.M.

 UNITY  HEALTH CAMP: Unity Health will offer a free summer enrichment program designed to inform students about medical careers.  This camp is for rising 11th and 12th graders and will run June 15-19.  Interested students can pick up more information in the Guidance Center.

 

KEY CLUB: will be signing up students to donate blood during both lunches Feb. 24-28. for the March 3rd blood drive. All students donating blood will receive a Friends themed t-shirt (The One Where They All D*O*N*A*T*E*D). You must be at least 16 to donate. Sign up to donate and save a life!

 

 

NYU  PRECOLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM: Get a taste of college life by taking courses in New York City at NYU Precollege Summer Program for upcoming juniors and seniors. Scholarship applications are due by April 1, 2020. For more information visit nyu.edu/precollege 

 

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, please confirm your intent to enroll by signing up for Orientation! Online registration for Orientation begins at 9:00 a.m. on February 28, 2020 at www.orientation.msstate.edu Very limited seating at each session so please sign up at the earliest as it is a first-come, first-served basis. 

 

SHS WORLD LANGUAGES are selling Pulseras again this year. They are $6 & proceeds go to help provide sustainable wages in Guatemala & Nicaragua. Please see Spanish students and/or teachers to purchase.

 

STUDENT-VIEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The 2020 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $12.000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior College or career school. It’s quick and easy to apply: Long on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The winner will be announced in May, 2020.

 

 WHITE COUNTY FARM BUREAU: Scholarship application is now available in the Guidance Center. Your parent or legal guardian must be a member of White County Farm Bureau at least 90 days prior to application submission. This application must be submitted with a wallet size picture and returned to the White County Farm Bureau office by April 10, 2020. See Mrs. Cleveland for an application!
