Senior Kolton Crawford was taken out of the wrestling lineup after an injury during practice.
“I was wrestling with Noah. We were just messing around. It was just a freak accident,” he said. “I tried to plant, and he stepped over it. It just tore. I felt like I was going to pass out and throw up.”
Many of Crawford’s teammates felt bad about what happened. Even coach Jerry Evans had his own views about the injury.
“When there is an injury, that’s what a coach fears the most, a player getting injured, especially a senior. You want the best for them, and for them to receive all of the awards. Knowing that they’re going to have to sit out for any amount of time is always nerve racking for us,” said Evans.
Members of the team look up to and think highly of Colton.
“Colton is like my idol in wrestling. He’s maybe the best on our team. No offense to Josh,” said Freshman Ryan Kleypas.
“I kind of thought that it would hurt the team a little bit because he is one of our best wrestlers,” said Sophomore Maddie Cosset.
Colton trains with the team after school every day to get better and to stay fit.
“At first I thought it was a joke because coach Lenard was messing with coach Evans about it. I didn’t really believe him, but the next day he came. He had been to the doctor. I was surprised he actually hurt himself,” said Freshman Christian Stephanovich.
