BETA club is one of the biggest clubs at Searcy High School, but you may not know what it actually takes to join.
“The kids that we invite tend to take school seriously and see how important it is, but they also want to help their school and their community and so you get to spend time with people that are like-minded, that feel the same things you think are important, are important,” stated sponsor Catie Holman.
A big element of BETA is the service to the community.
“BETA club probably has more fun than any other club on campus. While we are having fun, we are reaching out and helping people,” said Trisha White.
The students of BETA enjoy this part of being in the club.
Senior Patrick McKenzie said, “I like the feeling of being able to help out and get involved in things that I would not be able to do normally, outside of BETA.”
“I like how we can go out into the community and interact with people other than just in Searcy schools and make a name for ourselves,” said junior Kara Treadwell.
Along with helping your community, BETA club comes with another benefit.
“First of all, it looks really good on a college application, because you do have to have a certain GPA and you are helping your community, which is always a benefit that colleges are looking for, those who are willing to go above and beyond,” said Holman.
One of the biggest events in BETA is the BETA convention.
“My favorite part about BETA is BETA convention, by far. We go down to Hot Springs for a weekend and we participate in competitions and we get to meet people in BETA clubs from around the state; it’s just a fun get together,” said McKenzie.
Along with BETA convention, BETA also paritcipates in Christmas activities.
“I enjoyed the parade a lot; I got a group together, with Mrs. Holman’s help, to march in the Christmas parade and we gave candy to kids and some adults too,” said Treadwell.
