Students meet before school for prayer

Every year on the morning of Sept. 28, high school students across the world gather around their schools’ flagpoles for an international morning of prayer.  This event, known as “See You At The Pole,” was founded in 1990 “as a grassroots movement with ten students praying at their school” (www.syatp.com).

Now, millions of students gather every year.  Searcy High students participated this year as well, gathering early before school to pray for their school, community, nation, and troops.

“It’s awesome when you come together as a group of people and talk and pray to God about your needs and your school,” says junior Katherine Jimerson, who attended the event this year.

Roughly 75 students from a variety of denominations gathered this year as one body with one common purpose—to lift one another up in prayer.  All of the students involved realized that the opportunity to gather on school grounds for prayer is an opportunity not enjoyed everywhere in the world.

For senior Montana Wallace, “See You At The Pole” is an opportunity to embrace his freedoms.

“In other countries, they have to hide Jesus, but In America, you know, we have the freedom of religion,” Wallace said.  “We can come out in our schools and proudly proclaim the name of Jesus.”

The students who participated in this year’s event look forward to seeing the results of their prayers come to pass.  For more information on future events and planning, visit www.syatp.com.
