Fields of Faith brings students together to worship

DSC_0041Fields of Faith is one night during the whole school year that schools all over White County gather to worship. They have a tailgate with free food and music before the actual event where students listen to the guest speakers talk about God. Guest speakers share their testimonies and sermons.

“Fields of Faith is when schools all over White County come together to worship as a whole,” said sophomore Julia Rippey. ” I feel blessed to go to a school where we have this privilege.”

Fields of Faith allows students to be in an open and safe environment  where they can hang out. Students enjoy the tailgate because it is a change in environment to just hang out in.

“We have a tailgate that starts about an hour before with free food, and everyone just hanging out. Then a live band plays for our worship,” said junior Maison Thompson.

The students can really relate to the speakers because it’s other students and teachers telling very personal stories. The speakers testimonies make students aware that everyone has issues.

“It always opens my eyes to people and things,” said Thompson. “When a stranger shares their testimonies, it reminds me how we are all different but equal in God’s eyes.”

Other students feel that not only does it keep them in touch with their world, but it helps them with problems going on in their lives.DSC_0048

“Speakers tell their testimony and share what God has done in their lives. Sometimes what they say helps me with what I am going through,” said Rippey.

Each student has a favorite part of the night. The common favorite though would be hearing the testimonies.

“My favorite part is getting to know more about the people who speak. You may think you know somebody but you really don’t,” said Thompson.

This is not only a time to worship, but it is a time for the students to come together and make life-long friends, and bring the community together.

“I learn a lot about the struggles of people all around me that I may not have realized before. It touches my heart to see everyone come together for a night,” said Rippey.

The speakers wanted to express how God has played a key part in their lives. They shared their heartfelt testimonies, blessing, and troubles. The main speaker, English teacher Doc Watson, tried to show the students that he went through the same things that he went through and everything can turn out okay. He really wanted the audience to get this from what he shared.

“It gives me a chance to share some of my experiences with the kids to let them see some of the struggles I have faced,” said Watson. “They need to know that we all face challenges and that we are all in this together.”

He hopes that the audience understood that everything can be worked through with prayers, and that anyone can be examples for others to live by. He wanted to show that even students could be role models for others, and they should try to be their best.

“I hope it gave them some things to prayerfully consider. I hope it stressed the daily significance of the examples they try to be to others,” said Watson.
