Every year at the end of the school year, the drama classes put together different plays to show how much they have improved to their friends and families.
“It’s when each class prepares a one-act play and perform it for each other, but it is also open to friends and families of the actors,” said sophomore Alyssa Gardner.
As a farewell, each drama classes writes their own plays and perform it as the final performance for that school year.
“Actor’s showcase is out final performance of the year, showing how much we have progressed through the year,” said freshmen Krysteena Kittler.
To be in top shape for their performances, they rehearsed for about a month everyday during their class period on the stage in the auditorium.
“We rehearsed every day in class on the main stage,” said sophomore Austin Gardner.
This performance required the students to work more than just at school but also at home.
“I prepared by practicing my lines and knowing my cues on my own,” said freshmen Emerald Parker.
Each class had a different original play to perform that was written by one of the students in each of the classes.
“We performed ‘Family Reunion,'” said Kittler. “The others were ‘Cagebirds,’ ‘Catastrophe,’ and ‘Broadway is Bad.'”
All the students enjoyed performing because it allowed them to see how much they changed during the year.
“I did enjoy performing because it showed me how much I matured in my performances,” said Kittler.
Students also enjoy the way performing makes them feel like they can be anyone they want to be.

“I loved to perform because it allows me to be in a different world,” said Austin Gardner.
The night went off without a hitch, with everyone saying their lines and knowing their cues.
“I think our performances went well because everyone knew their lines,” said Parker.
The students felt like they proved how much they improved since their last big performance, the dessert theatre, which was only a few months ago.
“Honestly, I thought our performance was a lot better than out dessert theatre performances,” said Kittler.
While they all felt like their performances where exceptional, every class agreed that one play blew them out of the water, “Cagebirds.”
“My favorite show was ‘Cagebirds’ because it was different from the rest,” said Austin Gardner.
The play with unique characters and amazing acting attracted their audience in.
“My favorite was ‘Cagebirds’ because it was honestly really amazing, that is the only way I could describe it,” said Kittler. “It really was amazing and you can see how everyone fit in their character really well, I just loved it.
“
The plot to “Cagebirds” went to a deeper level with the everyone who saw it. It features all these different birds in a cage, and each have a different problem: eating disorder, know-it-all, Mrs. Perfect, the awkward person. They represent a high school and this new bird comes in and tries to help them get over their problems, so they hate him and avoid him, hitting some of the audience hard that could relate.
With the year coming to a close, drama students are now looking forward to the next year while closing this one on a high note.“My favorite show was ‘Cagebirds’ because there were moments in the play that would make you think oh wow that reminds me of something that happened today at school,” said junior Fayth Logan. “It just made me feel like wow this is really what people go through.”
