Students climb Pinnacle Mountain

After long hours of school work and studying, Friday finally arrives giving students an opportunity to prepare themselves for the weekend. For Senior Tabor Allison, getting up at 6:30 a.m. to hike Pinnacle Mountain was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning.

Arriving at Pinnacle around 9 a.m., Allison was accompanied  others in the youth group from Valley Baptist: Troy Brasel, Brian Robinson, and Hunter Brasel.  Along with her fellow youth group, was prepared.

“My ‘survival kit’ contained a bag of saltine crackers, Gatorade, and my cellphone which I carried in a back-pack,” Allison said.  The group was sure to provide extra water and Mr. Brasel’s famous trail mix in case thirst or hunger broke out.

After extensive hours of hiking, the group finally made it to the top.

“Getting to the top was the best experience,” Allison said. “I felt strong and accomplished.”

Freshman Hunter Brasel enjoyed the sense of accomplishment.

“I’ve climbed Pinnacle many times, but surprisingly it is a new feeling every single time,” Brasel said.

Pinnacle has different routes to take depending on your taste but the  youth group took the hard way.

“We climbed up the hardest part and went down the rocky side,” Allison said.  “It was very strenuous and I was so scared I was going to fall.”

Allison said in the end the experience was empowering.

“I would absolutely hike again,” Allison added. “It was such a great bonding experience with my friends and youth group.”
