Searcy (LP) Not many people just lay around on their couch all week and watched reality television during the one week they had a break from the usual tedious school life. However, the group of people who took this as a week of relaxation seemed not to regret it. Junior Leo Martinez said, “School gets so stressful. Sometimes you just need a break, you know?” He spent the majority of his break in his house.
Although this may seem to be a boring way to spend a week off school, many students use it as a way to recuperate from all the stress from numerous forty hour school weeks. “I slept the whole time,” said Flave Carpenter, a junior at Searcy High School.
While some students used Spring break as a way to relax, others used it as an opportunity to explore and learn more about the world they live in. “My best friend, Sara and I went and visited two different beaches over the break, and we didn’t get a wink of sleep. We were out doing things every single day,” says freshman Haley Wood. Her adventures were more closely related to the majority of students’ spring breaks. “I traveled to Chicago with my family for Spring break,” says Grant Robinson, “We learned so much on that trip.”
All of the students who were interviewed felt very passionately about this break, and reported how glad they were Searcy High School let them partake in an entire week off of school. “This week off helps me survive the rest of the year,” says freshman Haley Wood.
