Searcy(LP) Being the new kid on the block is not how most expect it to be. All throughout the year Searcy High School is welcoming arriving students with a warm embrace. Being a new student at Searcy is a great experience, the kids here are all welcoming and teachers are good at making the new students feel at home. Most students are stressed coming to a new school for fear of not knowing the area, making new friends, and keeping up with the classes. Although a change in schools can be a hassle, students can look forward to the start of their transition with Mrs. Brown.
We asked Mrs. brown how she deals with new students and she said,” My job is to get students registered and scheduled in our school, but my most important part of my job is to make sure the students are comfortable”. We asked Mrs. Brown how often she receives new students and you would expect most students to arrive at the beginning of each year but Mrs. Brown told us different,”most students come at each semester but we receive students all year. Mainly on holidays and many on labor day but I have had them as late as 3 weeks until the end of school”.
Many students have a hard time adapting to new schools even if they have moved all throughout their lives but Searcy is a welcoming place. We asked Mrs. Brown how new students adapt to school here at Searcy and Mrs. Brown gave us a warming Answer, ” I wanna think that students adapt well, I try to relate with each and I try to resolve student troubles the best that I can.” Thinking about how students feel at Searcy High School being new the staff are also affected by new students. We asked Mrs. Brown how new students affect her being a counselor and she told us, ” I have a ton of work I will stay here late to finish my desk work because I prioritize student needs. I would rather be here to talk to y’all than do all the work I have here to do. Each students needs are equally important and I try to fulfill them the best I can.” New students should feel welcome to our school especially because of the wonderful counselor we have here.
We asked Shelby Jackson how her first day of school was and she said,” It was very scary”. Did you make any friends on your first day,”yes tons”. Shelby said,” The school was very inviting, the teachers and students were very friendly. The most difficult part of being a new student was that there were so many more kids here than at my last school. It took me about a month and I felt completely at home at Searcy.
So being a new student may be scary but Searcy is a welcoming place and so are the people here. Don’t be scared coming to Searcy and being a new student, it will be a breeze. Being the new kid on the block may turn to being a fun time and make you feel right at home.
