Searcy (LP) The only thing on student’s minds is if they are going to pass high school, and life beyond senior year. Financial aid is an important step into the future. Everyone is taking the ACT and most seniors and juniors are looking for colleges and looking at college information. Colleges ask for seniors to have information and applications ready mostly by December for fall studies. It is important to have a great education to get better jobs to make the middle class a bigger class.
ACT is one of the most important tests for a high school student. As a student or parent you go online find a test date and sign up for it. The ACT is held in local colleges and community centers. For the test you need a calculator that is an approved type, a state approved ID, and a photo with a basic background showing your whole face. Anywhere between a 19 and 36 you can get certain scholarships and financial aid. The higher the composite score the better the scholarship. At some colleges, each test area can give a type of scholarship as long as its over at least 24. According to Julia Roddy, the 11th and 12th grade counselor at SHS, the average score for Searcy High School is 23.1 and the average state score is 20.4.
Visiting colleges are very important in figuring out your future. Searcy High School gives two college days to see any campus and find your future college. When students go to see a college they get a walk through and get the experience of a class. High School students also get to meet with college students making the visit very real and informing. To go see a campus you need to sign up for a specific day usually the sign ups are online and have open dates and times to choose from. Colleges also have special days for seniors to attend. For example overnights, weekend trips, college approved parties, and group visitation days.
Some students have made the choice not to go to college. Although, it is recommended to college for better jobs and more knowledge of the world around you, college is not always necessary. People who don’t go to college right away usually take some type of class or course later on in life. Some jobs require classes such as work place readiness and food preparation. Students have said after high school they don’t need more education, but your job training is a form of education and anytime you find out something new or that you just didn’t know before it is being educated. Mrs. Roddy also stated that for a good future you should, “take education seriously, challenging courses, look into different jobs, study, and invest your time into your education,” she also mentioned, ” Take the hardest course you can while still achieving a good grade.”
Follow what you want to do for your future as a student or graduate you can always do something to make your life better. If you test then study at least an hour a day or two without interruptions. When it comes to going to college find somewhere that makes you feel at home and don’t let others influence you. Choose your future on your own behalf.
