Every week a small group of students of all ages and personalities gather together and bond over a tradition that occurs in a coffee house.
“What makes the tradition special, getting coffee every week, is it’s like one of those routines that if you don’t do it you kind of get into a rut,” said Camden English.
Time spent with friends at the local Midnight Oil makes the time enjoyable for the group.
“It’s special because I get to come and hang out with my friends, and we just get to have a really good time and just kind of be with each other so it’s cool,” said Lauren Brandon.
It’s a chance for them to set their differences aside and build strong friendships with people that they may not usually hang out with.
“We always come and get coffee or whatever and then we get all settled and we just talk about everything from religion to school to random teenage topics. We build really strong relationships because it’s just a time to hang out.” Lauren Brandon, senior
English said this bonding with friends will make for lifetime relationships.
“We talk about everything from school to God to relationship problems, and everything in between,” English said. “I think I’m going to get new closer friendships, ones that will develop over time.”
Friendships can be formed over anything and in this case it all starts with coffee.
“We’re all kind of the same. We like the same things, like coffee. It’s funny how it brings us together,” said English.
Brandon said that coffee is her favorite thing in the world.
“You can get it in so many different flavors and like different types of coffee, so it’s cool,” Brandon added. “You can almost never get the same thing and it’s like a new drink every time you get.”
Just like you’ll never know what flavor you’ll get, you’ll never know what friends you’ll gain in life as these friends have found out bonding over coffee.
