Searcy, Ar. (LP) – The Beta Club is a club at Searcy High School for juniors and seniors that average a 3.0-3.4 GPA. The students are usually sent out a letter at the end of the school year as an invitation to join Beta Club. The Beta Club does a variety of events over the course of a school year like, the Beta Club Convention, the Food Drive, and also things like the Special Olympics. As a result in participating in this event, these students receive points, and if they reach a total of one thousand points, then at the end of their senior year the ones who achieved that goal will receive a Beta Club chord for graduation.

Tuesday, October 30th, the Searcy High School Beta Club hosted their yearly Harvest Festival. This year was one of the biggest turnouts that they have had in years. “This is my second year to work Beta Club Harvest Festival. I’ve personally enjoyed interacting with all the kids and seeing the many different costumes we’ve came across,” states Senior, Jewel Hernandez. The Harvest Festival is hosted for kids and students in the Searcy School District and the Searcy Area. The Beta Club members create fun games and interact with kids.

“This year was one of the biggest amount of kids we’ve had at the start of the harvest Festival. This is also my second year working the Harvest Festival. This year we created a basketball game and lots of kids enjoyed it. We had so many kids this year we also ran out of candy,” states Senior Beta Club member, La’Tiana Floyd. Floyd says, “I had a wonderful time with the kids this year and wish I could do it again next year.” This year we saw a ton of Beautiful princesses, angels, and Super heroes. One of the unique ones that stood out was, a parent who  dressed their set of twins up as bananas. Also, another set of parents dressed their kids up as the popular childhood TV Show, The Flintstones. “I thought this would be a great idea. It took a lot of work to make their costumes but it was worth it. Emersyn started to eat her necklace before we made it here. We made her big pearls out of gum balls,” states, parent of Easton and Emersyn, Chamelia Mitchell. This year was a very memorable one, seeing that it is some Beta Club members last year to participate in the Harvest Festival. The Harvest Festival had an amazing outcome this year, with the Beta Club members meeting and seeing a ton of different things. Mrs. White and Mrs. Holman are looking forward to an even bigger crowd next year around this same time.
