FBLA Leadership conference!
SHS FILM FESTIVAL: The Searcy High School Theatre Department invites all SHS
students to participate in our Spring Film Festival. Students are encouraged to write, direct, film, and star in a five minute
short film and attend the viewing on April 23.
What: 5 minute Film Festival
When: April 23, 6:30 pm (doors open 30 min. prior)
Where: SHS Performing Arts Center
Who: SHS Students
How: 1. Pick up judging rubric & entry form from outside Mrs. Taylor’s room in the PAC
2. Submit video to Mrs. Taylor via email at mtaylor@searcyschools.org or share
through Google Drive (same email address).
Films will be presented to an audience and judges in the SHS Performing Arts Center on April 23, starting at 6:30 p.m.
(doors open at 6:00 p.m.).  All participants along with family and friends are invited. Tickets will be sold at the door ($5 per

person). 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: APRIL 12 by 10:00 p.m.

ASU-BEEBE is extending their deadline for fall scholarships to April 5, 2019. All students who have been admitted to
ASUB (or have remaining documents postmarked) by April 5 with a minimum of a 21 on ACT will be guaranteed a
scholarship.
POWDERPUFF PLAYERS need to pay the $20 entry/t-shirt fee ASAP. See Mrs. Carpenter in room 531.
2019 HONOR GRADUATE PHOTOS:These 2019 honor graduates have not turned in photos for the Senior Assembly
honor graduate video. Please turn these photos into the EAST office or email them to Mrs. Bailey
at  bbailey@searcyschools.org  by Friday, April 5th.

COMMAND CONSTRUCTION INC. of Searcy is pleased to announce its 2019 SUMMER APPRENTICE PROGRAM
for rising high school seniors. Students will earn $11 per hour which is comparable to entry-level career concrete finishers.
The program will run from June 3 through July 26, summer apprentices will be supervised by an experienced team leader and
work for one month with a specialized construction carpenter and one month with a concrete finisher.   Interested students
can pick up an application in the Guidance Center.
SUMMER START: University of Central Arkansas faculty and staff are gearing up to welcome our Fall
2019 first-year students. If you have students who will be part of our entering class, please share the
information below with them, and encourage them to register now for these programs. We know their
success begins with a successful transition from your campus to ours, and each of the programs below is
designed to ensure a smooth beginning.

College Credit Programs – July 8th – August 9th

 

• 5-week credit course
• Focus Areas: Chemistry, Math
• Students may qualify for financial aid with submission
• of the 2018 FAFSA by June 30, 2019

One-Week College Prep Programs – August 11th-16th

• Focus Areas: Math Academy, Read/Write to Succeed, Bear Leadership Experience
• In addition to the focus area, students will learn to improve study strategies, time management and develop budget, get to
know campus and how to get involved!

SENIOR HIGH VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS: Senior High Volleyball Tryouts will be April 8 th and April 9 th from 3:30-
4:30 each day.
PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE FIRST EVER SHS CULTURE NIGHT: Celebrating Diversity in Searcy, sponsored by
SHS World Language Department. Students & the community will display cultural diversity in Searcy, including various
countries, crafts, activites, music, activities, etc. It will be Aril 4, 2019 6-8 p.m. in the SHS Cafeteria.
SEARCY BOARD OF REALTORS are offering the “Tina B. Daniel Scholarship" as well as a "Technical/Vocational
Studies Scholarship. The deadline is April 15th! Please come by the Guidance Center if you are interested in an application.
SHS FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASS will be selling artisan pulseras (bracelets) & bolsitas (bags) from Nicaragua &
Guatemala for the Pulsera Project. The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that creates sustainable fair trade jobs in
other countries to fund scholarships, community programs, etc.
Pulseras are $5 & Bolsitas are $10. If you are interested in purchasing one please ask a friend or see one of the language
teachers.

TEXTBOOK BROKERS: in Searcy, Arkansas is giving away one $250 textbook rental scholarship, one $150 rental
scholarship, as well as six $100 rental scholarships, to eight graduating seniors. Higher education expenses are at an all-time
high. We would like to help offset those expenses by offering $1000 in free textbooks rentals to students.

  The deadline for submission is May 31, 2019. Scholarship winners will be chosen by random in a drawing to be

at  www.searcybooks.com . If you prefer to mail, email or fax your application, please contact us for a copy.
YOUTH TO YOUTH : will be collecting donations for the Mission Machine during the week of April 1 – 5.  Items needed
are:  Hygiene Products like shampoo and deodorant, bath towels, and non – perishable food items.  Donations may be brought
to Mrs. Delgado's room, 325.

GOLF TRYOUTS:  Tryouts for the 2019 Lion and Lady Lion golf teams will be May 13th-14th at Searcy Country Club at
3:30.  Any student interested in trying out needs to see Coach Turney in Room 117.  There will be a mandatory meeting for
all students trying out in Coach Turney's room (117) on Thursday, May 9th at 3:15.  Students must have a physical, return the
information sheet, and attend the meeting in order to tryout.
SEARCY HIGH SCHOOL PROM PERMISSION FORM:  If a Searcy Senior or Junior plans to invite a guest (10th, 11th
or 12th grade) to the Prom that does not attend Searcy High School, you must complete a "Guest Permission Form" prior to
the prom.  The forms may be picked up in the East or West Office and must be returned to the East Office by April 25.
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS: High School Girls (10-12th) Basketball Tryout

FREE PHYSICALS OFFERED APRIL 5TH 3:30-5:00 AT SHS FIELD HOUSE.

ATTENTION SENIORS: local scholarships are being posted to the website. Please check daily for updated ones. Students
will need to print them out and follow the instructions closely regarding deadlines, essays, transcripts, or other items required.
