Searcy, AR. (LP) — On Friday November 8, Searcy High School had its last regular season home game against Sylvan Hills. This final home game is when we choose to honor our senior football players, band members, lionsteppers, and cheerleaders. Senior night signifies the end of seniors football season careers. Although this year we will get to participate in the playoffs at home stadium, there are several seasons where this game is the last chance for football players to prove themselves on the field, or members of the marching band to perfect any mistake they may have in their regular season show. Senior night is a big moment for seniors, probably something that they have looked forward to since they were a freshman in high school watching seniors getting recognized on the track in front of the football field. Although a great honor for seniors, it can also be emotional for both the senior and their parents as they realize how their high school career is almost finished
Dallas Loftis, a senior football player really began to feel the impactfulness of his senior year on senior night. Dallas has been a member of the SHS football program since he was in eighth grade, and has been a major part of the team ever since he started. “All of us being honored on the track on Friday made me realize that this is all coming to an end. I know that we still have playoffs left, but it won’t be long until it will be time for us to graduate and move on.”
It’s not just the football team that is going to miss regular season football games. Members of the band have been spent countless hours practicing for Friday night performances, and many former band members favorite memories are from Friday night football games. Brooke Brant a senior trumpet player expressed how much she is going to miss the games on Fridays. “Every fall playing at the games on Friday nights has been such a big part of our lives the past four years, and moving on without getting the chance to keep doing what we love is going to be really sad.” Many of the underclassmen band members are also going to really miss their senior friends. Connor Shaw, a sophomore in the band told us what the seniors moving on meant to him, “I’ve looked up to a lot of the seniors, and now that they’re gone it kind of signifies that it’s the sophomores and juniors turn to step up and lead the band.”
Regardless of whether you’re a member of the football team, band, or a part of the spirit squad, we are all going to miss this years seniors and the part they’ve played during the football games, and in leading the school.
