As usual, horns were tooted, cars were driven, and parade candy flew during the White County fair parade.
Many floats and parade participants marched down town in this event including the Aladdin float, the Bald Knob,White County Central, and Searcy bands, the Sonic float, the Little Miss Pageant winners, and several antique cars.
The drama team from SHS built the Aladdin float that had an Arabic theme with pillows all over the base of the float and curtains flowing down the sides.
“I really enjoyed the parade,” Mandy Taylor, dram teacher. “I especially enjoyed making the Aladdin float with my students,”
Despite the heat, everybody enjoyed the parade.
“Though it was hot, the fair was fun and exciting just like it is every year,” said senior, Jason Ricker.
The parade traditionally is a treat because people on the floats throw candy to the kids watching from the sides. Kids were ecstatic, and reaching for every piece of candy available.
“It was really fun to see the kids,” said Ricker.
The parade started at Spring Park and wrapped around the square. The SHS band march in the parade and played ‘Soul Finger’ and cadences.
The heat did have an effect on some of the band members.
“It was very difficult to march. I play percussion so I had to play the whole time,” sophomore Edgar Castorena said. “The others in band didn’t have to play as long.”
A lot of people came out to see the parade and the square was full of fair goers and parade lovers alike. There were people in each nook and corner of the square.
“I didn’t really mind the crowds. It was awesome,” said Knowlton. “I really liked the floats with the princesses on it.”
Sophomore Dylen Dylk didn’t care about the bands or floats. “My favorite part was the derby cars,” Dylk said.
However, junior Parker Fowler was a fan of the bands. “I thought it was a very lively event with great music,” Fowler said.
